“GONG” album by January Sound Project

“Gong”, the sound project which began as an accompaniment to the fragrance of the same name, is available for streaming on Spotify, iTunes (for purchase and streaming), Amazon, Napster, and many international platforms. It also available now as a limited edition vinyl record. The recording was created at the tail end of the fragrance work, but they have influenced each other in many ways, both operating as kaleidoscopic views and sounds of a central idea, the reverberations of a brass gong.

All instruments and compositions by John Biebel, the album was engineered and mastered by Murad Agha.

When recording the music for the album, I culled sounds collected from a few continents and over a number of years, including birdsong from a stay in Rye, East Sussex (UK) and more birds from my garden in Rhode Island while still dark in the wee morning hours of early summer. I also utilized extracts from short wave radio recordings, early satellite launches, and other audio ephemera interspersed among the melodies, orchestrations, beats, and acoustics.

The physical album edition is 300 copies and will be available on January 26th 2022.
